Writing Skills: Movie Reviews

Writing a movie review is often a motivating task for students since they get to choose a movie for which they have strong feelings, whether positive or negative. At one of my student's insistence I actually watched Sharknado (don't do it!). This user-friendly outline allows students to write an organized and comprehensive movie review, including an introductory paragraph, a plot summary and characters paragraph, a critique paragraph (in which students can discuss elements of the movie such as humor, cinematography, or realism), and a conclusion paragraph. The scaffold also includes examples of phrasing to help students start sentences and better express their thoughts.
