While theory of mind involves understanding others' perspectives and being able to “put yourself in their shoes”, the subsequent ability of adjusting your own behavior accordingly is of utmost importance. These printable worksheets help individuals on the autism spectrum improve their ability to modify what they say depending on to whom they are speaking. After answering six different questions in writing, students go back and choose which information to include or delete depending on who their listener is. Lastly, the students answer subsequent questions for particular receivers. These worksheets lend themselves naturally to extended discussion regarding the reasons behind choices made.

Note: I fold under “Step B” at the bottom of the first two worksheets before handing them out to students. It is important that they answer the questions freely before knowing what will be asked of them next.
